This Counts Canada is a brand new Canadian owned & operated retail site that provides you with fun and rewarding personalized marketplace. Users can discover, buy, collect, and share amazing items from stores and independent boutiques around the world while supporting charities in Canada – hence their slogan “Online Shopping with Purpose.”

When you join the site, you get direct access to a continually expanding, professionally curated, collection of premium products. Most importantly, a portion of every purchase is donated to a charitable organization supported by their retail partners – making each purchase count. What greater excuse could you ever have for shopping online?

What did we think of “This Counts”?

Imagine being able to visit the mall from the comfort of your armchair. But better than that, being able to browse multiple ‘stores’ from one site, making wish lists & creating style boards, and being able to checkout for all of the stores in one process. This is what it is like to shop on ‘This Counts.’
The ‘This Counts’ site is straightforward to navigate. You can choose to browse by category (Women, Men, Home & Decor, Health & Beauty, Electronics), by collection (For the love of pillows, Goodnight Sleep tight, Rock these graphic tees, I phone cases, wicked watches, etc.) or by store (like by brand). This made it very easy to look through home decor or women’s wear, at particular companies like Hudiefly or Flip Belt and even, for example, all of the watches on the site. I particularly liked these options for navigation – using the search bar on a site is OK if you know what you want a duvet cover but doesn’t help when you are just generally browsing or looking for gift inspiration!
When you visit a particular store within the site, their front page provides you with details about which charity they have chosen to support, information about the brand in general and shipping & return details unique to that store. You are also provided with an email contact and a web form to submit any questions straight to the seller.
See something you like (I know you will!)? You can click on the image for all the details you need or click on the ‘quick buy’ option. This will take you straight to checkout, which on ‘This Counts’ is a simple one-page process because all items are listed inclusive of tax and shipping is free – how cool is that? Now you don’t have to shop with a budget in mind and go through to a 5-page  checkout process only to find that with taxes and shipping you have to leave some items of your list.
I also really liked the way in which you can store those items you like but might not buy. By clicking the star next to an item you can place it on a board – it works in much the same way as Pinterest, but within the ‘This Counts’ site. You can build up boards of your choosing, saving all of those maybe / maybe not items or even just to share all of the treasures you found more quickly. You know – when you want to ‘accidentally’ leave the laptop open a few weeks before your birthday on the page where you have created a “My Birthday Wishlist” board.
Will we be using ‘This Counts’ in the future? You can bet your charitable donations we will. The site is a pleasure to use, the goods are varied and of excellent quality and you get to feel good that your purchase has helped a charitable organization. It’s a win win for everyone! These are the items we chose from Atelier Edele – they design artistic crib bedding sets, kids duvet covers and baby swaddling blankets in exceptionally soft organic cotton – perfect for our little ones. Let me know what you think and enter our giveaway and buy your own treasures.
