With Christmas and New Year behind us, the next thing on the list is spring! With climate change and global warming, winter might not be over just yet, but this doesn’t mean you can’t prepare for your home for Spring.

Windows

Windows can often be forgotten about when they take the brunt of the winter weather, they keep us warm from the cold and keep the wind and rain out. They also catch all the winter dust and dirt. Start from the outside and work your way in, clean the outside of all your windows and then go for the inside too, you’ll be surprised how much more light will fill your house.

Interior systems

Autumn and spring are the two most important times to review your home’s major HVAC – heating, ventilation, air conditioning systems, right before the harsh climatic changes are going to occur. Ensure that your air filters have been replaced or cleaned and stock up on new air filters if you use a disposable one. Check your air conditioner before the summer to ensure it is in good working order. If you need air conditioner repair, then now is the time to do it as it will be far more expensive in a couple of months.

Shrubs and Trees

Your bushes and trees from your garden might have seen a harsh winter by the time Spring comes, so get pruning. If not now, wait for slightly warmer weather and get outside to cut back dead leaves and make way for the new growth that spring will bring.

Your Garden

It’s highly likely that things may blow into your garden that doesn’t belong there. If you’ve had snow, then wait for it to melt and see what litter has made it onto your lawn. There’s likely be leaves, pine cones, fallen tree branches, and dog waste that may have ended up on your garden too.

Gutters and Sewers

Dirty gutters are ugly and can cause flooding and blockages. Cleaning your gutters don’t take very long, get yourself a ladder, a small rake, and a hose – or even better, get someone in to do it for you! Looking after your gutters means you will prevent having to replace them, so make sure you keep an eye on them As for your sewers, these could also be blocked with leaves and debris from winter, so sewer jetting is your answer. It will get rid of any foul smells, unexpected noises, and slower draining.

Bring the Outdoors In

Once the outside is looking pristine, get the inside sorted too. Make the most of the spring flowers and fill your home with potted plants to make your house smell good and look beautiful.

Deep Clean

Clean off ceiling fans, and clean out fireplaces from use over the winter. Test all of your emergency systems in your home: house alarm, smoke fire alarm, fire extinguisher, and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure they are working correctly.
