In order to be happy in life, it is essential that you do all you can to look after your mind. The nature and state of your mind are always going to be one of the most important things you have to think about if you are going to live fully and with passion and joy. Most people would agree to want a mind which is somewhat calmer and clearer. As it happens, it’s not too hard to get there, so long as you follow some simple steps and stick with them. Let’s take a look at what those steps are.
Meditate Every Day
If you want a calmer and clearer mind, the main thing you need to do is to ensure you are meditating every day. There is no greater tool for keeping your mind calm and clear than this, so it’s something you might want to get into as soon as possible. If you have not meditated before, or not for a long time, then you will want to make sure that you are starting this up as soon as possible. You only need about twenty minutes a day to notice supremely beautiful changes in your mind, so consider that well.
Overcome Your Addictions
Most of us are addicted to something, and part of the nature of an addiction is that it is rarely good for keeping your mind calm and clear. In fact, the absence of an addiction is the state that you are ultimately going for here. A tricky part of this process can be actually trying to work out what addictions you have in the first place, but that will be made easier by your meditation practice, as above. Then it’s a case of taking some practical steps to overcome it, such as going to rehab for alcohol abuse or seeking therapy, or whatever it might be in your case.
Spend Time in Nature
If you don’t currently spend all that much time in nature, then this is something you might want to add to your daily routine too, as the results of doing so can be really profound for your mind and general wellbeing. You can simply go for a walk in the woods or fields, for instance, or anything else that you think might be a good way to get in touch with nature. The important point is that you do it regularly, and you keep away from technology and people while you do it. This is your time to just be on your own in the natural world. It is truly a tonic.
Figure Out Your Social Needs
Everyone has their own level of social need. Often, we have troubled minds because we are trying to do too much or too little with regard to our social needs. If you need to spend a lot of time alone, then you will want to be careful about socializing too much, for instance. But if you are a true extrovert, then spending time with others is much more important. Figure out what your own needs are here, and then make sure that you are doing right by yourself. This will lead to a calmer mind in no time.
Keep Your Home Clear
If you want a clear mind, make your home clear. It’s amazing how much this can help you, and it’s the kind of thing that can be surprisingly powerful and really take you by surprise. However, it’s true: just keeping your home clear of clutter is going to lead to a mind that is likewise clear of extraneous stuff. That is the feeling that you are going for, after all, so it’s something you will want to think about at least.
Limit Screen Time
Screens are really the enemy when it comes to having a clear and calm mind. Regardless of how much time you might spend looking at screens, it could always be less, so remember this and try to limit your own screen time as much as possible. At the very least, make sure that you are not simply scrolling Twitter all hours of the day – there are few things that will agitate the mind more than this behavior. If you can keep away from screens altogether, you will be very peaceful indeed.
Those are some of the most powerful steps you can take in order to have a calmer and clearer mind, so make sure that you are considering them if that is what you want. It will help to make your life a lot easier.
