When it’s time to give your kid a new look bedroom, it’s easy to get carried away looking for inspiration. But these amazing rooms can come with a huge price tag. But there are a number of ways you can create the perfect room without it costing a fortune.
Break out your sewing machine
Soft furnishings can really make a room but can cost a lot of money. Blinds, drapes, cushions, and comforters can all be crafted at home. There is a huge range of fabrics out there to fit any theme. From silk to flannel fabric, choose the color and pattern that matches what you’re looking for.
Ikea hacks
There are entire YouTube channels and Instagram accounts dedicated to taking plain and inexpensive items of Ikea furniture and turning them into fantastic statement pieces that look amazing and are far more expensive. Not only can you create unique pieces of furniture, but you can do so for a small fraction of the price.
A popular hack for children’s rooms is turning a basic Ikea shelving solution into a seat. By turning the unit on its side, adding small feet, and creating a seating cushion for the top. Not only do you have a great seat, but you can add storage baskets too which will give you additional storage, perfect for a child’s bedroom.
By pre-loved furniture
Furniture is usually the most expensive part of redecorating a room. Look for some quality bargains at flea markets, local groups, and online marketplaces such as eBay. Even if you can’t find something that’s completely in keeping with the look you want, there are always options to upcycle it with a lick of paint and some new accessories.
Create multi-functional spaces
When you’re a kid, your room is everything to you. A place where you sleep, play, do your homework and relax. Trying to create a room that fulfills all of these requirements, usually with very limited space. Try using multifunctional furniture such as raised beds that have storage or desks underneath them or a bed that pulls out to a guest bed for sleepovers.
If space is very limited you can also look at furniture that folds away, such as a wall-mounted desk you fold out for homework or projects but then disappears when you don’t need it to give extra space.
Get crafty with your walls
Patterned and themed wallpaper can cost a lot of money, even if you put it up yourself. If you want to create a feature wall, you can use a number of techniques to get the look you want. Stencils are an inexpensive way to put characters on the wall, with your child’s favorite cartoon character or anything else they’re interested in.
Final thoughts
Decorating a child’s bedroom can be very expensive. If you know how to look for a bargain, and are clever with your designs, you can create an amazing space that they’ll love, but without having to spend a lot of money to achieve it.
