When you are choosing to sell your house, you’re going to find that it’s as big a job as buying one in the first place. Selling a house is a stressful event; there are a lot of factors involved and you will definitely need to take on some advice from someone more in the know than you are. You might think that staging your house for sale takes a lot of cash, but it doesn’t have to. The biggest stress you’re going to have is to find the right people to guide you through the process.

One of the best things that you can do is to talk to a realtor about your home sale if you are planning to make it happen. There are several things that you should be doing before you sell your house, and once you understand the process a little better, the stress seems to dissolve! Below, we’ve got five of those things that you should absolutely be doing ASAP to get your home off the market and in the hands of a new buyer.

  1. Work on decluttering. You can’t sell a house that looks like a garbage tip. You need people to walk into your home and feel like they could be living there. The best way for that to happen is to stuff the closets with your stuff to get it out of the way if you can’t do a true declutter before things go on the market. Get everything off the surfaces and out of the way and let people see the blank canvas that your home is for them to use.
  2. Call in the cleaners. If you’re going to declutter, you need to also clean the space properly so that you don’t have viewers catching dust bunnies on the way. Ceiling fans are the perfect places for dust to gather, but if you mask up and clean them down, you won’t have this problem. Get the vents cleaned, the surfaces wiped down and everyone will feel that they are walking into a fresh and clean place when they come in to view it. You may want to get an emergency drain cleaning service to come in as well. While you may not be having a traditional emergency, you do need your house in pristine condition to get the best price. Getting everything that may be harboring dirt and grime clean can only improve your home’s appeal and ability to grab a sale.
  3. Add some scent. You need to think of which scent would best work with your house for your viewings. Some people choose scented candles where others are more authentic with freshly baked cookies. The smell of your home should be that fresh and welcoming smell when people walk into the front door. You can show off a little with this one, so make sure that you choose a scent that works.
  4. Call in the window cleaners. You may be able to do this yourself, but why do that if you can call in the experts to do it for you? The glass and windows in your home need to have the right attention to ensure that you are able to show off the way that the light streams through the windows.
  5. Speaking of light. You need to show that your home is bright and breezy and the best way to do that is to prove how the light floods right in. Opening the curtains and blinds is the best way to do this as you can showcase how bright your home is.
