People who do not smoke think that it is straightforward to quit. You only lay off the cigarettes one day, and that’s that. But there is much more to it.
Relapsing is the big issue preventing people from truly quitting. Once you say to yourself “I’m done!” you will have occasional need for smokes. Every time you get craving represents a potential danger as it is really simple to slip back. This is precisely why you need to be meticulous and prevent this from ever happening
If you wish to quit smoking, there are a lot of things you need to do. First and foremost you need to eliminate anything that reminded you of smokes. Create a healthy environment and work on your body. Only when you do all of that, do you have a chance of removing this awful vice from your life.
Products that reduce craving
Even before you officially quit, it is necessary to go to a grocery store and buy products that will help you during the process. Gums and patches are a great solution here. You can also go for e-cigarettes that are based on vape juice; however, they are not ideal as you will still be smoking with them.
Reduce consumption of specific products
Again, you need to revise all the things that are entering your body. As you well know, there are a lot of products that go well with smokes. For example, smokers cannot imagine their day without a cup of coffee and a cigarette. Something similar applies to beer. Over the course of time, you probably created a list of all the items that habitually go together with cigarettes. They become a part of your small rituals, rituals that need to be eliminated. If you manage to reduce consumption of all these products you will think about cigarettes less and thus, there will be a lower risk of relapsing.
Think about your mental state
One of the main reasons why we continue smoking is that strong feeling that cigarettes give us after a few puffs. If you wish to quit, you need to find something else that will make you feel good. Now, I am not necessarily talking about vices such as alcohol – there will be no point in quitting tobacco if you’re just going to replace it with something else. I am referring to some other activity that will make you feel good and provide you with that rush of positive energy that cigarettes previously provided. Also, make sure that you’re in a good place mentally before you start the whole process. If you’re unstable, you are likely to lose will somewhere along the way.
Be pragmatic when it comes to stress
Stress is one of the main reasons why we continue smoking. When there is some difficult situation in our life, when there is something bothering us, we are quick to jump the gun and light up one. Make sure to be pragmatic when it comes to stress. This is one of the best ways to reduce the number of potentially relapsing situations. First, realize the fact that you’re stressed. Then, find something else to do when you reach this state. You need something else besides cigarettes to release that negative energy.
Focus on physical activity
Same with your mental state, it is important to improve your physical being. By making your body more responsive, you will improve the metabolism and all the processes within it. This also means it will be easier to cope with stress and other situations that would otherwise lead to smoking. If you’re exercising, you will spend more time outside which is another unspoken benefit. By doing so, you will have less time to think about cigarettes and how good they taste. After a while, your lungs will find it hard to process them, and it will become harder and harder to smoke.
If you truly wish to eliminate cigarettes, change your lifestyle. Remove everything that reminds you of them and start doing things that are positive for both your body and mind. Find hobbies, spend time outside and try avoiding areas with lots of smoke.
