Summer is approaching fast and with it comes the inevitable thoughts of how to keep the kids occupied. As care-givers we know we should be keeping those little minds & bodies stimulated, taking the kids out & about for new and exciting experiences but what our heart & brain agree on doesn’t always work with our wallets. Never before has it cost so much to get out and about especially here in the Lower Mainland where everything seems to be getting more expensive. So what can we do?
One solution is the KidsWorld program. Kidsworld provides a calendar of events so you can enjoy amazing experiences with the little ones from June through to the end of August for just the price of one inclusive membership fee of $50 per child. Each membership is for a child between four and thirteen years of age with one accompanying adult.
Once you purchase a membership there is no obligation to attend every event, you just pick and choose from the wide range of educational, athletic and family fun adventures on offer. Some events have limited space, so for those you have to make a reservation but apart from that you can get up in the morning, check out the calendar and decide what you are going to enjoy today.
“Something for everyone” is an often used phrase but it really does apply to the KidsWrold program. There is a wide range of activities, spaced out across the summer such as:
July 6th – Free entry to the Vancouver Police Museum & Drop in Forensics – Learn the science of crime and help to catch the bad guy. Examine fingerprints, tool marks and broken glass to solve the crime.
July 14th – The Young Peoples Opera Society of BC hosts a fun all day workshop to introduce children to the fun of singing and acting in opera. (Reservation event).
August 3rd – Visit the Fraser River Discovery Centre and Samson V Maritime Museum and tour the SmasonV the last steam-powered sternwheeler in BC. Come and play and explore the hands-on exhibits and discover all you need to know about the Fraser River.
August 19th – The Run, Throw, Jump, Wheel Event teaches the fundamental skills of running, throwing, jumping, and for children in wheelchairs, wheeling using track and field inspired games.
August 26th – The Canadian Museum of Flight hosts one of the most diverse collections in the country and this is part of a three-day event.
