Fan Expo is Canada’s premier event for lovers of movies, science fiction, fantasy, comics, and all things fantastic! It ran from September 3rd to 6th, and over 100,000 fans descended on the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Of course, DK was there to greet them with a booth full of the latest and greatest Star Wars, Marvel, DC, and Doctor Who titles. For those who couldn’t make it to the Expo, they’ve created an online boutique that showcases some of the great titles that were on display at the show. Click here to get a tiny taste of what those lucky enough to be in Toronto got to see.
I’m not going to talk about the Fan Expo itself, mostly because I wanted to be there & couldn’t go, so talking about it makes me sad but I am going to speak of some of the great Expo Boutique books that Dorling Kindersley sent me to review.
First of all, I must confess. Although I was taken to see Star Wars when it was first released (I won’t tell you exactly how old I was but I was tiny!) and have seen and enjoyed all of the Star Wars movies, I have always been more of a Star Trek fan. Not the original series either, I’m a TNG (The Next Generation) fan all the way. So the first book to be cracked open was “Star Trek – The Visual Dictionary.”
As you would expect from DK, the book beautifully presents a whole slew of facts & figures for fans, presented in their trade mark “brilliant photos against a white backdrop” format. The double spread above shows what you can expect, and it is pure coincidence that I chose the pages about Captain Picard’s crew (not).
As well as information about each incarnation of the USS Enterprise & her crews there are plenty of facts & figures about many of the alien races, such as the example above of my favorite alien race, the Borg.
But as 2015 will be the year of Star Wars I would be remiss in not featuring some of the excellent books on offer.
What Star Wars fan wouldn’t wan these in their collection? We are particularly fond of Star Wars in 100 scenes. This book gives a solid grounding in all things Star Wars: the story, the characters and the events from all six movies in -chronological order. You will discover what happened to who & how it happened with a number of behind the scene snippets that make this book a must, even if you have seen all the movies at least 9 times. Feast your eyes:
Of course the Fan Expo Boutique reflects the Fan Expo itself and is about so much more than Star Wars & Star Trek. In the boutique you will find:
Marvelous Marvel books
Delectable DC books
and much much more such as: Dr Who, Pokemon, Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Iron Man, Wolverine, Avengers, Lego Star Wars – you get the idea! So rush on over to the DK Fan Expo Boutique now and get your fandom book fix today.
